Our History

For 28 years, the Family Childcare Services Program has supported family childcare educators and the families they serve. Fueled by trusted relationships and word-of-mouth referrals, the program has expanded beyond its roots in Jamaica Plain to build partnerships and provide services across Boston, Holbrook, Brockton, Randolph, and Waltham.

Our Philosophy

Our mission is to strengthen, support, and educate family childcare providers through high-quality professional development, individualized technical assistance, and resources that promote excellence in early childhood education. We also partner with families to increase access to affordable childcare by connecting them with vouchers, subsidies, housing resources, employment services, and other community support. Together, we are committed to helping children, families, and providers build a strong foundation for a stable and thriving future.

Our Approach

We promote a play-based, child-centered approach to early learning that encourages children to explore, create, solve problems, and build meaningful relationships. Using the Creative Curriculum framework as a guide, family childcare providers tailor learning experiences to each child’s interests, culture, family background, and developmental needs. Through hands-on activities, responsive interactions, and intentional teaching, we help providers create nurturing environments where every child feels valued, confident, and inspired to learn.
