About John Fitzgerald
Board position:
Member; Chair, Community Organizing Committee
Committees:
Community Organizing, Racial Equity
Current field of work or professional background:
I retired from the Mass. Department of Housing & Community Development in 2014, where I ran the Commonwealth’s Urban Renewal Program. For many years, I also worked in programs that funded community development corporations and Community Action Agencies.
JPNDC project I am the most proud of:
I have worked on the State of the Neighborhood (SOON) events for several years. I’m proud of our SOON efforts because they bring together hundreds of folks from Jamaica Plain to push for legislation and public policy that benefit everyone, but most importantly, those JP residents facing poverty, discrimination, and an unsympathetic political climate.
What inspires me:
Working in a diverse and progressive community with colleagues and allies to bring about progressive social change.
What I like:
For over 50 years I’ve been involved in the drum & bugle corps activity first as a participant, next as a member of a drum corps management staff, and now as a writer for a marching arts publication.
