75 Amory Avenue

  • Location: Jackson Square, Jamaica Plain

  • Overview: A LEED certifiable, transit-centered development that is part of the Jackson Square Redevelopment Initiative.

  • Units: 39 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartments

  • Location: Jackson Square, Jamaica Plain

  • Overview: A LEED certifiable, transit-centered development across the street from Jackson Square Station that includes both affordable apartments and ground-floor retail.

  • Units: 30 studio to 2-bedroom apartments

Catherine Gallagher Cooperative

  • Location: 119-225 Heath Street, Jamaica Plain
  • Overview: Phase II of the Back of the Hill Community Housing Initiative, a partnership with Back of the Hill CDC, this project transformed a large blighted lot into seven buildings of high quality housing.
  • Units: 34 1- to 4-bedroom apartments

Doña Betsaida Gutiérrez Cooperative

  • Location: Centre & Creighton Streets, Jamaica Plain
  • Overview: Named after a local activist, this property is part of the redevelopment of the former Blessed Sacrament parish and includes units for visually and mobility-impaired residents. It also includes ground-floor commercial space at 365 Centre Street.
  • Units: 36 1- to 3-bedroom apartments

Forest Glen Cooperative

  • Location: Forest Hills Street and Glen Road, Jamaica Plain

  • Overview: At high risk for conversion into luxury condominiums in the late 1980s, Forest Glen’s creation as a limited-equity cooperative would not have happened without a collaboration between the tenants’ rights group City Life/Vida Urbana and JPNDC. City Life organized nightlong crime-watch vigils and a rally to ward off speculators when the foreclosing bank tried to auction the property. Today, JPNDC is working with the Forest Glen Board in preparation for a refinance and renovation.

Hyde Square Cooperative

  • Location: Scattered sites in the Hyde Square section of Jamaica Plain
  • Overview: The Hyde Square Coop converted nine blighted lots into housing that gained national recognition for its community-led planning process.
  • Units: 43 2- to 4-bedroom apartments
  • Completed: 1993

JP Scattered Sites

  • Location: Scattered sites in the Hyde & Jackson Square sections of Jamaica Plain
  • Overview: Transformed four buildings of dilapidated housing into permanently affordable homes with resident leadership. Major renovations were completed in 2013.
  • Units: 18 1- to 4-bedroom apartments

Pondview Apartments

  • Location: 560-566 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain
  • Overview: A major victory in avoiding displacement of low-income residents, Pondview’s acquisition by JPNDC ensured that it retained its long-term affordability.
  • Units: 60 1- to 3-bedroom apartments
  • Completed: 2000

Rockvale Circle Cooperative

  • Locaton: 5 properties on Rockvale Circle, Jamaica Plain
  • Overview: When a landlord who had long neglected these properties attempted to convert them to luxury condominiums, the JPNDC, working with City Life/Vida Urbana, residents and neighbors, stepped in to buy the property.
  • Units: 15 2- and 3-bedroom apartments

Sumner Hill House Apartments

  • Location: 76 Elm Street, Jamaica Plain
  • Overview: The result of a long-term partnership to redevelop the former JP High School as mixed-income housing (originally rental, gradually transitioning to ownership). These ten apartments will remain affordable rental units until their occupants are able to purchase them or decide to move out, in which case they will be sold to first-time homebuyers who are low/moderate-income.
